Our Mission

The mission of the Center for Afghanistan and Regional Peace Studies (CARPS) is to advance positive and sustainable peace, regional cooperation, and constructive engagement through independent research, policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative initiatives.

CARPS seeks to deepen understanding of the political, security, social, and regional dynamics that shape peace and stability in Afghanistan, Central Asia, and the wider region. The Center promotes a regional approach to peace by creating opportunities for scholars, policy experts, practitioners, civil society actors, and emerging voices to exchange perspectives, share knowledge and experience, and explore practical responses to common challenges.

Through evidence-based research, policy analysis, publications, conferences, expert roundtables, and regional and international dialogue, CARPS aims to strengthen informed policymaking, encourage peaceful conflict prevention and resolution, foster mutual understanding, and build networks of cooperation across national and institutional boundaries.

The Center also seeks to connect regional perspectives with academic, policy, and peacebuilding communities in Canada and internationally, contributing to inclusive, cooperative, and locally informed approaches to sustainable peace.

Our Vision

CARPS envisions a peaceful, stable, and cooperative Afghanistan and region in which dialogue, mutual understanding, knowledge, and regional cooperation help prevent conflict, strengthen human and regional security, and create the conditions for sustainable peace.

The Center aspires to a future in which Afghanistan, Central Asia, and the wider region are increasingly connected through constructive engagement, shared knowledge, peaceful relations, and collaborative responses to common challenges, while regional and international actors contribute to peace through dialogue, cooperation, and respect for the perspectives and needs of the societies concerned.
